AI × Alternative Protein Hackathon
A weekend of building AI-powered solutions to real problems in alternative protein, with students, researchers, and industry working side by side at UC Davis.
Hack the Fork Davis brings together people from software, data science, food science, engineering, and business to tackle challenges facing the alternative protein industry, using AI as a core tool.
The event is organized by the Integrative Center for Alternative Meat and Protein (iCAMP) and the Davis Alt Protein Project, as part of the international Hack the Fork network of hackathons. Challenges are developed with industry partners, so teams work on problems that matter in the real world.
Work on challenge tracks shaped with industry partners and iCAMP researchers.
Build with people across disciplines whose skills complement yours.
Get guidance from expert mentors throughout the weekend.
Detailed times will be posted closer to the event. Plant-based food provided!
Opening and challenge briefs in the evening.
A full day of building, with mentor feedback.
Final building, pitches to judges, and awards.
The event is aimed primarily at graduate and undergraduate students and early-career professionals. Teams will ideally have a combination of people with knowledge in AI / software / data science and those with domain knowledge in food science, biotechnology, business, law, or other areas that could apply to food innovation.
Application form coming soon! Follow us to be notified when applications open.
No. You can apply with a pre-formed team or apply individually and form a team later in the process. Teams should consist of 2-5 people with a mix of technical knowledge and domain knowledge.
No, unfortunately we currently do not have funds to cover transportation to the event for participants.
Yes, and it will all be plant-based.
Prizes will be announced soon.
Sponsors can shape a challenge track to see new ideas built on their problems, meet emerging talent, and contribute to a more sustainable food system. We're also looking for in-kind support: plant-based food and drink, datasets, prizes, and mentors and judges.

Applications aren't open yet. Follow us on social or fill out the interest form, and we'll let you know when they open.
